Why ALLTER

Why clients come to ALLTER

We believe surface preparation and protection go hand in hand.

The corrosion industry talks a lot about corrosion control. At ALLTER, our ambition is more straightforward:

Stop corrosion. Full stop.

To get there, we believe you have to look at the complete job — from the condition of the steel and the way the surface is prepared to the protection system applied afterwards.

Because even the best coating can only perform when the surface underneath it is properly understood and prepared.

The real world is not a coating laboratory

Many conventional liquid-curing coating systems depend on abrasive blasting to a high standard of surface cleanliness, typically Sa 2½ under ISO 8501-1 or SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2. In a controlled environment, that can be an excellent solution.

But pipelines, refineries, terminals, offshore structures and industrial plants are rarely controlled environments. Access can be difficult. Abrasive blasting may be restricted. Dust and spent abrasive have to be contained and removed. Mobilisation and demobilisation take time. And shutting down an operating asset simply to create ideal coating conditions may be impractical or extremely expensive.

That is where clients come to ALLTER. We engineer the preparation method and the protection system together, around the asset and the conditions in which the work actually has to be done.

Prepare what matters

Good surface preparation is not simply about making steel look clean. Loose rust, deteriorated coating and other poorly adhering material must be removed. But visible cleanliness is only part of the job. Contamination that cannot easily be seen can be equally important to long-term coating performance.

Our approach is therefore practical: remove what threatens adhesion and protection, identify and address contamination, and create the right surface condition for the protection system that follows.

The objective is not preparation for preparation’s sake. The objective is lasting protection.

If you can’t blast, bristle blast.

Protection that does not need to become hard

Our flagship technology, Allter Visco-Rite™, takes a fundamentally different approach from a conventional curing coating. Instead of applying a liquid that must chemically cure into a rigid film, Allter Visco-Rite™ uses the permanently visco-elastic characteristics of polyisobutylene (PIB) to form an intimate, conformable and highly hydrophobic barrier around the substrate.

The principle is encapsulation. The system is designed to exclude water and create a continuous protective environment around the steel. Because the material remains visco-elastic, it can accommodate movement associated with temperature changes and complex geometries rather than relying on a hard film that must resist those movements.

Think of it as a protective skin that never needs to become rigid to do its job.

Allter Visco-Rite™

Inspired by a material that never stops adapting

Sometimes an advanced solution starts with a remarkably simple material principle. PIB has long been valued for its combination of flexibility, tack and very low permeability to moisture and gases. One familiar technical application is the primary seal in insulating glass units, where PIB-based sealants help maintain a barrier while glass, frames and surrounding materials continuously respond to changes in temperature and pressure.

The principle is simple: it does not rely on becoming harder. It relies on remaining flexible.

ALLTER applies this material philosophy to corrosion protection. Where conventional coatings are primarily engineered to cure, Allter Visco-Rite™ is engineered to remain responsive.

Flexible. Conformable. Hydrophobic. Permanently visco-elastic.

Designed for the field

That difference becomes particularly valuable where conventional coating work becomes complicated. Complex geometries. Existing pipelines. Risers and piles. Field joints. HDD applications. Repairs and rehabilitation. Locations where abrasive blasting is difficult. Projects where mobilisation, containment and downtime can cost more than the coating itself.

In suitable applications, protection can even be applied to extended pipeline sections in the field, reducing the logistical burden associated with factory coating, transport, handling and subsequent field repair.

Allter Visco-Rite™ is supplied as a non-dangerous material, helping simplify transportation, storage and field handling. And because the system is forgiving in application, protection becomes less dependent on creating perfect factory conditions in an imperfect field environment.

Less preparation. Less complexity. More protection.

For us, innovation is not about making corrosion protection more complicated. It is about removing unnecessary steps.

Saving time. Reducing mobilisation and demobilisation. Making application intuitive and enjoyable. Reducing dependence on difficult field conditions. And giving the people doing the work a system that helps them get it right.

Because surface preparation and coating should never be treated as two separate problems.

Prepare intelligently. Protect completely. Make the asset last. That is why clients come to ALLTER.

Material intelligence, applied to corrosion protection.
